Historical Holidays in Andalucía
The South of Spain has an extraordinary richness of history starting with the Phoenicians and Carthegians followed by centuries of Roman governance, and then came the Visigoths only to be totally overwhelmed 200 years later by the Moors. This corner of Spain was under Islamic rule for over 800 years which has left its indelible mark on the people, language food and architecture.
The British took Gibraltar in 1704 and throughout the 18th century there were great sieges of that Rock, Nelson’s glorious victory at Trafalgar and battles of the Peninsular War.
We have two historical holidays covering the battles and history of this area of Spain based from the comfort
"Throughout the region you see peaks topped off with such battlements, remnants of a bloody history that takes in the Moorish occupation, the inquisition, The Peninsular war against Napoleon and the Spanish Civil War." Timothy Barber City A.M.
