British Action in the Straits
We cover the Great Siege of Gibraltar, British naval engagements including the Battle of Trafalgar and the Peninsular War in general. The week will be interspersed with impressive walks for those in need of a little exercise. Adam Hopkins, lecturer, historian and 'story teller', will give a series of talks covering a period of history when the British dominated the Straits with spectacular success.
You visit battlefields, the defences of Gibraltar, castles where the French billeted their garrisons and the great city of Cádiz to look at the Napoleonic invasion from the Spanish perspective. Looked after impeccably by the Arbuthnotts with delicious food and fine wine, five nights are spent at La Almuña and two nights at the Parador in Cádiz.
